Design in Harmony was a collaborative project between designer and upholsterer Sarah and fellow maker Gareth Wilson. The project was the result of a commission back in 2016 by the composer and performer Pippa Reid-Foster who needed a specifically designed seat for playing her harp.
By 2022, Design in Harmony had made and sold over 80 seats worldwide. Gareth has now retired and the seats are no longer being made; however it demonstrates very well Sarah’s design capabilities and vision.
The seats were hand-crafted their respective workshops in being hand made, could be customised for height and choice of wood and top fabric to suit the player and their own instrument.
“It is universally agreed that a good understanding of playing posture is directly linked to exceptional instrument control and mastery.
What is less understood is the influence of chair design on the ability to achieve these goals”
