We are all individuals with different taste and style. No two projects are ever the same. The beauty of offering a bespoke upholstery service is that I listen to what you want and tailor the project accordingly.

I use natural and sustainable materials wherever possible. This reduces waste and pollution as I strive for my business to be carbon neutral.

Welcome to Sarah E Shephard, a fully qualified upholsterer with over 25 years experience in furniture and related industries. Based in Helensburgh, Argyll, the business is well placed to serve Glasgow, Edinburgh, West and Central Scotland.

Sarah is an upholsterer with an eye for detail and a flair for style. She started her career at Winchester School of Art before gaining a First in Three Dimensional Design at Newcastle Polytechnic. After working for furniture makers Stephen Down and Alexander Ward her career then took her to classic boat restoration. Aside from this Sarah has illustrated 7 books published by Royal Yacting Association.

Working in collaboration with wood-worker Gareth Wilson, Sarah established Design in Harmony in 2016 and this led her to take up the tack hammer to upholster the seats they had prototyped. Sarah spent 5 years training under the watchful eye of Master Upholsterer James Keane, and passed her AMUSF Diploma with distinction (Association on Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers). Working from her purpose built workshop in Helensburgh, Sarah is set up to take on a breadth of upholstery, restoration and furniture repair work, offering a one stop shop for even the most hopeless of furniture cases.
